Gut microbiota are very diverse communities of microorganisms that reside in the gastrointestinal tract and play an important role in regulating the health of the host. Cultivation-based studies are essential because they facilitate proper taxonomic description of novel microbes and open avenues for downstream functional studies.
In this session we discuss a simple workflow for rapid generation of pure bacterial cultures isolated from complex gut samples. We will demonstrate how the b.sight, a new instrument for single-cell dispensing of bacteria, can be used to rapidly sort single microbial cells and enable direct generation of clonal cultures. CYTENA´s b.sight technology allows researchers to bypass low efficiency “dilution-to-extinction” or agar streaking steps and can be easily integrated into anaerobic and automated workflows.
